Focused Moments: Relationships/Friendships
As we begin the month of February, I want to spend time focusing on relationships. This week we are focusing on Friendships. My friends have changed my life for the better. Read on to find ways to add time in your life for your friends and learn more about each other.
Full Focus Tip:
As I prepare the chicken parmesan, I laugh to myself as I realize it “only” took three months to schedule this dinner with friends. It took some effort, but we made it work. Taking time for friends is one of the ways that I rejuvenate as an Enneagram Type Social Nine. I need to be around friends.
What do you need to do to rejuvenate?
It is important to take time to plan rejuvenation.
I love that my Full Focus Planner has a spot each week to prioritize my rejuvenation time during my weekly preview.
If social time with friends helps to rejuvenate you, then take these three steps:
- Choose a way to connect with friends:
- Make it a priority by adding to your planner to schedule a time.
- Reach out and set up a time and put it on your calendar.

Eight Kinds of Friends You May Have
Friends, what would we do without them?
Everyone needs friends in their life. But, depending on our personality, our list of friends may look different.
We have several kinds of friends in our lives.
- Loyal friend – Everyone needs a friend to call when their world is falling apart and they need someone to pick them up. They will support you and pray with you. Some Enneagram types find this easier to find that loyal friend than others. Some find it in their romantic partner. It is important to have someone you can depend on and turn to when times get difficult, so take time to be vulnerable and find this person.
- Adventure friend – The friend you call when you just need to have some fun. They get you and know how you like to have fun, but they also push you to take some risks and stretch yourself.
- Work friend – The one person that you have that gets you through the hard days. The one who “gets it” as they are going through the same thing. The one who helps you laugh and become a better version of yourself.
- The Mentor -The friend you call for advice who has already walked the road you are on now. The guide that will help you grow in all areas of your life.
- Social group – This is a group of friends that gather together regularly. You enjoy living life together with your families. You spend quality time together and experience life through social gatherings.
- Soul friend – This is a friend you do not see that often, but as soon as you see each other, it is as if nothing has changed. You have a connection that formed quickly, and you maintain this connection throughout your life, no matter the distance.
- Season friend – This is a friend that comes out of a season in your life. You may be working on a project together, or your kids are friends. You develop a friendship, but as the season changes, you lose touch.
- Texting friend – The friend you love to text in awkward moments or send that meme to get you through the day. It may not be deep, but it can brighten your day with a few words.
You may not have every time of friends, but each type needs to find friends in many of these areas. Each Enneagram type defines what a friend is differently, so it is important to understand the need for this in your life.
