Focused Moments: April
Are you struggling with getting things done and finding yourself just taking longer and longer tasks list all over the place?
You wake up, and in front of you is a long list of things to do that fill you with dread.
Even if you finish some of them, you still feel like you failed because there are too many left. This can make us exhausted feeling like there is no end in sight.
To avoid this, we need to narrow down our list.
One way to do this is by choosing a Daily Big 3 – the three most important tasks for the day that help you achieve your weekly and long-term goals. It’s important to focus on these tasks so you don’t waste time on things that seem important to others but aren’t important to us.
It may seem easy to list only three tasks, but it requires more effort to choose the most important ones from a long list. This helps us focus on what’s important and frees up our day from too many tasks.
Take time to do these steps:
Pick your Daily Big 3.
In order to do this, you can go about it two different ways.
- Some people sit down and think, what the most important three things I have to do today are? They do not have to be big (even with a name like Big 3); they just have to be the three most important things. It can be something with a deadline or an activity that will move the ball toward the goal.
- Others make a list of the tasks they have to do that day, then look at the top three and move them up to the Big 3.
Write the Daily Big 3 down.
You can keep your Daily Big 3 on a sticky note, in a notebook, or on the Day Pages of the Full Focus Planner. Wherever you keep your list, make sure to focus only on what really deserves priority and pushes your goals forward.
Place them on the schedule if needed.
Take time to put the task into your day and on your calendar if necessary. Make sure that you have the time and energy to complete the tasks. If not, you may delete some steps or decrease your Daily Big 3 to a Daily Big 2.
By focusing on the most important tasks, we can achieve better results and feel like we’re making progress. You can keep track of your Daily Big 3 on a sticky note, notebook, or planner.
This will help you feel more in control of your workload and avoid feeling overwhelmed. Instead of feeling defeated, you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished your goals for the day. Think about what tasks you can eliminate or delegate so you can focus on your top three priorities.
