Consistency:

Rituals are an essential element of a healthy and productive lifestyle. They are a powerful tool for achieving our goals and living fulfilled. They provide structure and help us manage time efficiently. Chaining together simple habits into daily rituals can have a powerful impact on our lives in the present as well as the future.

The Full Focus Planner community suggests four daily rituals: Morning Ritual, Evening Ritual, Workday Startup, and Workday Shutdown.

Let’s look at the Morning Ritual.

Why is it key?

This ritual is a head start on your day. It can improve your focus, energy, and productivity, while helping you prioritize self-care. Begin each day with a Morning Ritual to lay the foundation for success and balance.

The Morning Ritual begins when you wake up and lasts until you begin your workday. It includes elements that promote wellbeing and establish consistency. These elements may include:

  1. Meditation or mindfulness practice, getting dressed
  2. Exercise or stretching, followed by planning out the day.
  3. Reading inspiring material or listening to a podcast, followed by a cup of coffee or tea.
  4. Spending some time outdoors, followed by a healthy breakfast.
  5. Reviewing personal goals or affirmations, followed by checking in with loved ones.

Tailor your Morning Ritual to your life stage and circumstances, and vary its scope accordingly.

To establish your Morning Ritual, take a look at your personal goals and priorities. By examining what you want to achieve in various aspects of your life (career, health, relationships, personal growth, etc.) you can create a routine that supports your unique goals. For example, if your goal is to improve your physical health, incorporate exercise or healthy breakfast options each morning. If your goal is to cultivate a positive mindset, add in mindfulness or gratitude practices. By aligning your morning routine with your goals, you can set yourself up for success today and in the future.

Clarity:

To create a personalized Morning Ritual, look to your Enneagram type for inspiration.

Type 1: Wake up early, make the bed, do some light exercise, and plan the day.

Type 2: Wake up with a smile, make a cup of coffee or tea for a loved one, and take a moment to meditate or reflect on the day.

Type 3: Wake up before the sun rises, hit the gym or go for a run, and spend some time reviewing goals and planning the day ahead.

Type 4: Wake up slowly, journal or reflect on dreams, and plan a creative activity for the day.

Type 5: Wake up early, read a book or study a topic of interest, and note the most efficient way to tackle the day’s tasks.

Type 6: Wake up with a sense of purpose, review upcoming challenges or tasks, and take a moment to meditate or pray for guidance.

Type 7: Wake up with excitement for the day ahead, plan fun activities or outings, and meditate on or visualize positive outcomes.

Type 8: Wake up ready to take charge, hit the gym or go for a run, and review any important decisions or actions that need to be taken that day.

Type 9: Wake up slowly, stretch or do some light yoga, and plan a peaceful, balanced day with time for both work and relaxation.

By incorporating some of these options into your Morning Ritual, you can create a routine that fits your personality type and starts your day on the right foot.

Explore, discover, plan, and find the combination that energizes and refreshes you.

How did the full-focus planner change your habits or productivity?

“I now use my planner much more thoroughly with the weekly preview, quarterly preview, and evening shut downs and morning start ups. I also review my goals almost daily now. I have learned the importance of writing SMARTER goals and the difference between projects and goals. ” – Janie H.
